BERLIN, NEW YORK, DÜSSELDORF

“Once in New York I went to see my friend Peter Handke. […] I took a picture of his desk, a ‘hip shot’ of our walk and a picture of his lonesome figure wandering off after we’d split. […]”

Peter Handke was in New York working on his novel LANGSAME HEIMKEHR / SLOW HOMECOMING at the time (1979). To date, Wenders and Handke had already realized four film projects together.*

The long-running collaboration between Handke and Wenders served as one of the focal points of the comprehensive film retrospective presented from March 2nd to 17th 2015 at MoMA in New York, which built on this year’s Homage at the Berlin International Film Festival.

You can find more information about the individual film introductions and talks at MoMA, including a panel discussion with Peter Handke, here:

An Evening with Wim Wenders and Peter Handke

Both the HOMAGE devoted to Wim Wenders at the 65th edition of the Berlin International Film Festival in February of this year and the subsequent honoring of his films at MoMA represent the beginning of a new era concerning the availability and visibility of his cinematic work, all made possible over the last two years through the tireless efforts of the foundation.

Now, we are excited to turn our attention to upcoming events in Düsseldorf:

On April 19th the film series IM LAUF DER ZEIT, initiated by the Filmmuseum and accompanied by the publication of a catalogue, is set to begin with screenings in the Black Box and Düsseldorfer Filmkunstkinos cinemas. Coinciding with this series, the Stiftung Museum Kunstpalast is honoring Wenders with a retrospective of his photographic work under the title “4REAL & TRUE2. Wim Wenders. Landscapes. Photographs.”, which opens on April 17th. The accompanying exhibition catalogue will be published by Schirmer/Mosel. In addition, the Munich-based publishing company will also be reintroducing two new editions of previously published work to book retailers soon with WRITTEN IN THE WEST – REVISITED and ONCE. PICTURES AND STORIES. The collection of writings DIE PIXEL DES PAUL CEZANNE UND ANDERE BLICKE AUF KÜNSTLER will be released the same month by Frankfurt’s Verlag der Autoren, including the full length original issue of “ONCE. Pictures and Stories”.

On April 2nd Wim Wenders’ new fiction feature EVERY THING WILL BE FINE will open in German theaters, after celebrating its world premiere at the Berlinale. On top of this, Studiocanal is preparing for the long-awaited release of the Oscar-nominated documentary feature THE SALT OF THE EARTH on DVD and Blu-ray.

On April 21st Wim Wenders will be spinning records all evening long at the Düsseldorfer Kunstpalast in the context of an intimate talk about his relationship to photography and on May 6th he will be present at the Stiftung Kunstsammlung NRW for a conversation with Guenther Uecker. Both events begin at 7 pm.
