PARIS, TEXAS – 30TH ANNIVERSARY

“It was a glorious time we all had in Cannes in May of 1984.
Harry Dean Stanton had just played his first lead role,
after having made a hundred films already.
He was so nervous about it that he asked a young actor
by the name of Sean Penn to accompany him and to assist him.
Sean did this with great devotion to Harry Dean.
Nastassja Kinski was young and gorgeous,
Ry Cooder had made a first and very original score,
Sam Shepard was the hottest writer in America,
Robby Müller was at the peak of his craft
and a role model for a whole new generation of cameramen.
Only I could have fucked it up,
but hey, I guess I didn’t.”

Wim Wenders

Thirty Years after it premiered and won the Palme d’Or one of Wim Wenders’s most iconic films returns to the illustrious Cannes Film Festival.
We are delighted to have such a prestigious platform to celebrate the 30th anniversary of PARIS, TEXAS. Tonight, 21 May 2014, the film will be shown in the Cannes Classics category at the Salle du Soixantième in attendance of Wim Wenders. Furthermore we are very happy to be able to present to you some original footage from the 1984 premiere’s carpet walk. Look closely and see if you can spot the aforementioned young actor. And if you cannot be in Cannes tonight, PARIS, TEXAS is available on DVD and Blu-ray through Criterion.

Best wishes from Cannes,
